Project Details

Survey Type: Setting Out Services
Client: Commercial Client
Location: Sturminster Marshall, Dorset
Year: 2026

Project Brief

Baypoint Surveys recently visited a new site for a client to carry out comprehensive Setting Out Services. This is a recommended step at the start of any new development project. The survey involves checking all site boundaries and tying up existing features with original site plans to ensure total accuracy before design and construction proceed.

Project Overview

The client required a precise confirmation that their proposed properties would fit comfortably within the site boundaries. A common issue in the industry is that projects often start based on Land Registry plans or Ordnance Survey data. These plans are not always accurate and can sometimes be out by a few hundred millimetres. Relying on them can lead to significant issues later in the build.

To carry out this work properly, the project needed:

  • Accurate verification of the site boundaries.
  • Level checks across the site to determine topography.
  • Reliable data that architects could use to validate their designs.

Project Outcome

The survey provided the client with a definitive “fit” check for their new site.

The architects received an accurate survey that allowed them to overlay the proposed buildings and check for any potential problems. This process provided the client with the reassurance that the property layout was viable and that the project could move forward without the risk of spatial errors.

The final data was issued promptly, ensuring the planning and design process could continue with a solid foundation of accurate data.
