Project Brief

Baypoint Surveys, based in Dorset, recently carried out a Topographical Survey at a residential property in Poole. The job involved mapping the back garden of the property, capturing the topography, boundaries, tree lines, and other key details. Using instruments such as a Trimble R12i GPS unit and the Trimble S7 total station, we were able to gather highly accurate data to form a clear and detailed survey.

The client required a Land Survey to establish if a parcel of land they were proposing to purchase was suitable to build a new property. In many cases, homeowners request Topographical Surveys when they are planning an extension or considering the development of additional housing on their land. In desirable areas such as Poole, gardens and plots of land often hold potential for future development, and having accurate survey data is essential to make informed decisions and gain planning permission.

Project Overview

Our experienced surveyor, Elliot, surveyed the open and challenging areas using a Trimble R12i GPS unit, which made it possible to quickly and effectively capture most of the garden’s features.

For areas with heavy tree coverage where GPS signals could not reach, Elliot also used the Trimble S7 to capture finer details such as ridge levels and hidden features. By combining both systems, Baypoint ensured complete and reliable coverage of the site.

Once the on-site data collection was complete, Elliot returned to the office to process the information and create a detailed survey drawing. This plan was then sent to the client, providing them with a clear and accurate map of the site to the extent required.
