Client Brief

Refurbishment of Grade 2 Listed Building.
Our client was looking to re-develop a landmark brewery in Weymouth.
To enable the design, we were asked to produce a detailed Land Survey, Elevations, Floor Plan and Sections.

Delivery & Method

The building was very dilapidated as it had been left empty for numerous years. It was also a very complicated construction, with 7 floors ranging from Basement to Fifth. Each with complicated architectural detailing.

The Land Survey was undertaken with a conventional Total Station, whereas the external and internal element of the building were surveyed with a Terrestrial Laser Scanner.

In addition to taking measurements from ground level, we would also need detailed plans of the roof structure, which was hidden from road level. To facilitate this, we used our Airborne Lidar and Photogrammetry Drone.

From the drone data we were able to host the 3d model of the whole building on the NIRA platform. This was an invaluable asset for the Consultants, as it enabled them to visualise parts of the building that had been previously hidden.

Outcomes

One of the many advantages of working with a detailed point cloud, is that once it has been completed, you don’t have to keep making return visits to site to produce additional drawings.
This proved invaluable to the design team, who were able to call us up at short notice and request intricate sections, plans and elevations of the building.

Final deliverables were 2d DWG Land Survey, Floor Plans, Sections and Elevation, together with a georeferenced point cloud and the 3d model hosted on the NIRA platform.
